SUCCESS STARTS WITH A PLAN
By MayHAC's Governing Board
In an industry where patients have many options, providers have to plan for their success. 2012 is upon us. Has your organization seen at least a 20% increase in census since last year? Have you launched an efficacy-based compliance program? Have you updated technology to keep up with the demands of the industry? If you've answered no to any of these questions, you may be headed in the wrong direction. Why not begin 2012 with a plan for success? MayHAC has compiled a list of ten predictions to watch for in 2012.
- Regardless of Health Care Reform Legislation, the current market will force Medicaid providers to develop compliance programs, form partnerships with other provider types, and devote greater resources to policy development.
- Anti-kickback laws will be enforced among case managers and other professionals who engage in referring patients for services.
- Enforcement activities will increase with a greater emphasis on home care as states face greater pressure from the federal government.
- Anti-fraud penalties will increase and more providers will face exclusion.
- HIPAA enforcement for home care agencies will increase
- Whistleblowers will increasingly target home care providers as word of pay outs to whistleblowers becomes more popular
- Home care agencies will write big checks to OIG for non-compliance issues.
- Compliance professional will be in high demand
- Newly adopted licensing requirements will prevent many from obtaining Medicaid and Medicare provider numbers.
- Home care , long-term care, and community providers will have to develop compliance programs to cut down on recovery costs and remain relevant in the market.
